Primary sources, authenticated and citable.
The archive opens in 2027. Until then this page describes the collections being assembled, the method every holding will follow, and the public intake log.
Collections
Collections are organized by subject. A holding may appear in more than one.
Origin
Records bearing on how SARS-CoV-2 emerged: grant files, proposals, laboratory and biosafety records, and correspondence.
Federal funding and oversight
Grants, contracts, audits, and oversight correspondence from funding agencies and their grantees.
Vaccine and therapeutic records
Trial documents, regulatory submissions, adverse-event data, and agency correspondence.
Public health measures
Orders, guidance, and the data used to justify and evaluate them.
Communications
Agency and platform records on public messaging and content moderation.
State and local records
Records obtained from state and local authorities.
Method
Every holding carries a permanent identifier in the form DBP-YYYY-NNNNN, a SHA-256 hash computed at intake, a provenance note, and a chain-of-custody log. The identifier is never reused. The hash is published with the holding so that anyone with a copy can confirm it is byte-for-byte the record Daybreak holds.
Authentication means a documented match between Daybreak's copy and a source copy (an agency release, a court docket, a publisher's version) or, where no source copy exists, a documented account of how the record was obtained and what cannot be verified. Holdings that cannot be fully authenticated are published with that status stated.
Daybreak makes no redactions of its own. Redactions present in a source copy are noted. Where a record contains personal data of private individuals that serves no public purpose, the holding is withheld or the data is masked, and the masking is logged. See the takedown and correction policy.
The written method will be published here as a versioned document with its own holding identifier before the archive opens.
Intake log
A public, append-only record of what enters the archive: date, number of records, source class, and the initials of the intake officer. The log itself is a holding. It begins when the first record is accessioned.
No records accessioned yet. The first entries will appear here.
